Could you give us a little detail about what you were doing prior to your role at Skopes?
Previously I have been working within the baby and nursery industry for a brand that manufactured everything textile-related for children, except clothing. This included bedding, nursing pillows, stroller accessories and much more so joining Skopes and the menswear industry has been a real and exciting change in direction for me.
What attracted you to the menswear industry? Have you always envisioned entering the industry?
I feel that even in today’s day and age, a smartly dressed man still turns heads when he enters a room, whether this is with a more modern ‘smart-casual’ look or with a classic suit and tie combo there can still be that wow factor. Personally, I have been wearing suits every weekend from a young age and so when the opportunity to join a menswear company with the history of Skopes arose, I was thrilled to accept.
What does your position as Business Development Manager entail?
My role is to bring a new pair of eyes and ideas to Skopes from someone who has never previously worked within the menswear industry. I will be working within our Wholesale division and looking to bring a fresh approach and a new face to the brand’s offering. In fact, many of your readers may have already met me as I have been undertaking a ‘grand tour’ of the UK, visiting independent retailers up and down the country.
You’ll be attending Moda for the first season. What is your main priority at the show?
Like you say this is my first Moda and I am looking forward to take in all the show has to offer. For me my most important priority is to meet the people who make this industry what it is, whether it’s our long-standing customers, those who aren’t currently working with us, or even competitors (yes, I mean that). My experience tells me that open and honest conversations are the best way to develop relationships and I would like to ask your readers to come past and introduce themselves at the show.
And what can buyers expect from the SS18 collection? Are there any standout pieces that buyers should take a look at?
One thing that has become very apparent to me since I began, is the huge improvements in the Skopes range over the last 5 years which has to be credited to the fantastic work of our design team. Through their hard work they have added a modern contemporary look to our range, whilst revitalising old classics, allowing us to offer tailoring, that I am proud to wear. A couple of stand-out pieces I would recommend buyers to look at include our double-breasted Oxford blazer, for that smart casual look as well as our Newman Dinner Suit which is a fantastic twist on the classic dinner suit and perfect for the fast-growing prom market.
Skopes will be showcasing its s/s 18 offering at this season’s Moda, taking place at the NEC, Birmingham from the 6-8th August. For further information on the show or to register visit www.moda-uk.co.uk.
